Experience how engaging and accessible classroom biotechnology can be! Amplify DNA fragments using the fast and robust MiniOne PCR System and analyze the PCR products on the MiniOne Electrophoresis System. In this hands-on workshop you will amplify sections of the Lambda Phage genome using our engaging and efficient PCR system. Learn how to set-up the reactions, program and monitor the MiniOne PCR System using an app on a wireless Bluetooth-connected tablet, then watch DNA separation in real time and analyze your PCR products on the MiniOne Electrophoresis System.
Workshop 2
Who Is Baby Whale’s Father? DNA Fingerprinting Solves the Mystery!
12:00 PM — 1:15 PM [ 2017-11-10 12:00:00 2017-11-10 13:15:00 America/Chicago MiniOne NABT Workshop: Who Is Baby Whale’s Father? DNA Fingerprinting Solves the Mystery! Get hands-on experience teaching electrophoresis and DNA fingerprinting in one classroom session. Pour, load, and run a gel to deduce a probable conclusion for a whale of a mystery. This hands-on workshop will use pre-prepared DNA fragments and gel electrophoresis to determine the paternity of a baby whale based on the DNA pattern of the baby whale and other whales in the pod. Foodborne Outbreak Investigation Using Gel Electrophoresis
1:30 PM — 2:45 PM [ 2017-11-10 13:30:00 2017-11-10 14:45:00 America/Chicago MiniOne NABT Workshop: Foodborne Outbreak Investigation Using Gel Electrophoresis Learn first-hand how to encourage students to use scientific reasoning by mimicking a foodborne outbreak investigation and designing an experiment with gel electrophoresis to determine the source of the outbreak. Midway Suites 4, St. Louis, MO MiniOne® Systems info@theminione.com ]
Learn first-hand how to encourage students to use scientific reasoning by mimicking a foodborne outbreak investigation and designing an experiment with gel electrophoresis to determine the source of the outbreak. To investigate what dish got the party-goers sick, you’ll get hands-on with gel electrophoresis, while learning how concepts of PCR are utilized in real-world applications like food safety and public health research.
Workshop 4
Deduce the Genotype of PTC Taster vs Non-Taster
3:00 PM — 4:00 PM [ 2017-11-10 15:00:00 2017-11-10 16:00:00 America/Chicago MiniOne NABT Workshop: Deduce the Genotype of PTC Taster vs Non-Taster Get hands-on experience teaching Mendelian genetics and genotyping using electrophoresis. Pour, load, and run a gel, analyze the results, and determine PTC taster genotype – all within one classroom session. Midway Suites 4, St. Louis, MO MiniOne® Systems info@theminione.com ]
Get hands-on experience teaching Mendelian genetics and genotyping using electrophoresis. Pour, load, and run a gel, analyze the results, and determine PTC taster genotype – all within one classroom session. This hands-on workshop will examine why Jillian cannot taste PTC while her entire immediate family can. Using pre-prepared DNA fragments and gel electrophoresis, you will determine Jillian’s and her family’s genotype and correlate their genotype to their phenotype.
